Our Story
From a few rows of Merlot to a family collection.
Urs Hauser arrived in Ticino in his mid-twenties, a young electrical engineer who had come to learn Italian. He stayed. He and his wife found a house with a stretch of land in Contone, and planted a handful of Merlot vines under a large pergola — enough, in those first years, for about sixty bottles.
What began as a hobby became a half-hectare by 2005, and by 2010 — now farmed professionally — 4.5 hectares. Since 2013, the estate has operated from its own facility on Via Cantonale in Contone, with room to receive guests as well as press and age wine. Today the vineyard spans more than twenty parcels and roughly 25,000 vines: about 75% Merlot, 20% Sauvignon Blanc, the rest other varieties, two-thirds of it on the steep hillsides of Monte Ceneri above Contone, where Merlot has been grown for more than a century.
Each parcel carries the name of someone who worked it before: Hugo, Aldo, Fausto, Franco, Giorgio, Edi, Francesco, Paolo, Pierino, Adriano, Gianni. It's why the names Villa Gianni and Casa Hugo felt right for the two homes on the estate — they were never invented, just borrowed from the land itself.
Today the Hauser family produces wine, welcomes guests into those two homes, and is reimagining Fiori Astrid, the family's flower shop, as part of one connected experience. The idea is simple: everything we offer should carry the same roots, the same care, and the same table. We call it vom Rebberg ins Glas — from vineyard to glass.
